Locking the editor

Require a password to edit, so a cell in production cannot be changed casually.

The editor can require a password. While it is locked, the editor page shows only a lock screen; the runtime is unaffected, so operators keep running their screens. Lock the editor when a cell goes into production and the pendant or tablet stays within reach.

For per-user access control, see Password Protection (J541).

The lock is stored on the controller, not in the browser:

  • One lock covers every device connected to the controller. Locking one tablet locks them all, and unlocking one unlocks them all.
  • The password survives reboots and a cleared browser cache.
  • While a password is set, the editor always starts locked after a controller power cycle. An unlock lasts until someone presses Lock now or the controller restarts, whichever comes first. To leave the editor unlocked permanently, remove the password.
  1. Tap the padlock in the editor’s top bar.
  2. Enter the password twice — at least four characters — and press Set password.

The editor stays unlocked after the password is set. Lock it before handing the device over.

Tap the padlock and press Lock now. Every connected editor shows the lock screen immediately — a save attempted from another device after that point fails with a Retry toast until the editor is unlocked again.

To unlock, press Unlock on the lock screen and enter the password.

Unlock first, then tap the padlock. Changing takes the current password and the new one. Remove password leaves the editor open to anyone.
