Asked first in Europe, opt-out elsewhere

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which parts of the page get read and which don't. How we switch it on depends on where you are, because the rules do:

• —EEA, UK, Switzerland — you get a banner and analytics stays off until you press Accept. Before that no Google script is fetched, no cookie is written and no data leaves your browser.
• —Everywhere else — analytics runs from the start, and you can switch it off whenever you like with Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. We'd rather not put a banner in front of people whose law doesn't ask for one.

We work out which case you're in from your browser's timezone, which needs no request to anyone and tells us nothing beyond a rough region. If we can't place you, you get asked. Google independently applies the stricter setting to anyone its own records put in Europe, so a wrong guess errs toward protecting you rather than tracking you.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets its own cookies (_ga and _ga_<id>) to tell repeat visits apart, and records the pages you view, approximate location derived from your IP address, referring site, device type and browser. It also records some interactions with the page — how far down you scroll, and clicks on links that lead off the site, including the email links. GA4 does not store your full IP address. We use all of it in aggregate — we are not trying to identify individual visitors, and the data is never used for advertising or shared with advertisers.

You can change your mind at any time: reopen the cookie choice, or clear this site's cookies and local storage in your browser. Declining deletes any analytics cookies already set.

Unavoidable, and not tracking

The site is served by Firebase Hosting. Like any web server, it keeps standard request logs — IP address, timestamp, the file requested, user agent — which are needed to serve the page, keep it up and defend it against abuse. These logs are not linked to the analytics data above and are not used to build a profile of you.

If you write to us

The demo and question links open your own mail client; there is no form on this site and nothing is submitted to us through the page. If you do email us, we keep the correspondence and your address so we can answer you and continue the conversation, and we delete it once it's no longer needed for that. We won't add you to a mailing list you didn't ask for.

Only if you subscribe

The form at the bottom of the home page subscribes you to an occasional email list about FANUC robot programming. It is run by Mailchimp (Intuit), and submitting the form sends your email address to them — nothing is sent until you press Subscribe. Mailchimp stores your address and records whether you opened or clicked an email; we use that only to judge whether the writing is worth continuing.

Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, which removes you immediately. You can also write to jay@onerobotics.com and we'll take you off by hand. We don't sell or share the list, and subscribing is entirely separate from the analytics above — the two are never joined up.

Who else sees anything

• —Google — Analytics, and Firebase Hosting, which serves the page. Both act as our processors.
• —Mailchimp — the mailing list, and only if you subscribe. Your browser contacts them when you submit the form, not before.
• —YouTube (Google) — one embedded video on the home page, and only if you press play. Until then the page shows a still image served from this site and your browser never contacts YouTube.

That is the whole list. Everything else the page needs — typefaces, images, the product demo video, the logo — is served from this site, so apart from analytics, the mailing-list form and the YouTube video you choose to play, your browser contacts no one but us. There are no trackers, ad networks, social widgets or third-party fonts.

Hosting, analytics and the mailing list all involve transferring data to the United States. Google is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and we rely on that together with Google's standard contractual clauses as the transfer mechanism.

Why we're allowed to

• —Analytics — your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time without affecting what was collected before.
• —Server logs — our legitimate interest in serving a working, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f)).
• —Email correspondence — steps taken at your request and our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).
• —The mailing list — your consent, given by submitting the form (Art. 6(1)(a)), withdrawable from any email in one click.

What you can ask for

If you're in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Write to jay@onerobotics.com and we'll answer within one month. Given what this site actually collects, the honest answer to most such requests is that we hold nothing beyond an email thread, if you've written to us.

You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority if you think we've handled your data badly.

If this notice changes

We'll update the date at the top. If a change means we start collecting something new, we'll ask for consent again rather than rely on the old answer.
